Batavus Cables

November 29, 2020

1970’s Batavus mopeds use 1970’s Magura controls. The left side is the rear brake and start lever. The right side is the front brake, throttle, and choke trigger. The brake cables connect to the levers with little adaptor pieces called socket bolts or cable anchors.

For Batavus cables, there are five model groups:

1. ’76-78 HS50 and Mobat
M48 engine, low handlebars

2. ’74-80 VA, Starflite VA, Starflite HS
M48 engine, standard handlebars

3. ’76-78 Bronco
M48 engine, high and wide handlebars

4. ’78-80 Regency VA, Regency HS
M56 engine, std. handlebars, spoke wheels

5. ’78-80 Regency VA, HS, ’82-85 Trac Eagle, Clipper, Hawk
M56 engine, std. handlebars, mag wheels

Batavus brake cables have an adjuster on the wheel end, and a short Magura type adjuster on the handle end. The handle end adjuster is a convenience, so you can adjust it while riding.

41-286r is a single ended choke cable. First the inner wire #137 slides though a small brass choke plunger #133. Then a set screw #134 holds it from the bottom end. Two tiny rubber o-rings #132 go into grooves in the choke plunger. Then the inner wire passes through a spring #136. See Encarwi carburetors for those parts. At the top end, a 5 x 7mm pinch bolt goes into a plastic thumb trigger in the right control.

41-246 and 41-406: There is no adjuster on the choke cable. Instead there is a rubber boot (not shown) that keeps water and dirt from getting in.
