The six parts lists below use this same set of notes.
Note 1. The brake plate has a short round tube that passes through the bearing seal and stops against the bearing. It also seals the bearing grease from getting onto the brake. The front brake is on the left, so the front bearing spacer is on the right. The rear brake is on the right, so the rear bearing spacer is on the left. The bearing spacers stop against the bearings and have a 20mm diameter at the bearing seal.
Note 2. The brake cam shaft pushes the brake shoes against the drum. It can have two different thicknesses. 1976-78 SL and TT models had 10mm thick cams and 31.12.210 brake shoes (MM# 105251). 1978-on models had 8mm thick cams and 43.12.210 brake shoes (MM# 105252).
Note 3. 43.12.210 (MM#105252) brake shoes have steel plates on the cam end, but 31.12.210 shoes (MM#105251) do not. To make 43.12.210 replace 31.12.210, either the 1 mm steel plates must be removed from the brake shoes, or the 10 mm cam ground thinner to 8 mm.
Note 4. Derbi brake shoes came in two types, hole and non-hole, that interchange. The brake shoes with holes slide over the pivot pin so they can never detach. That improves safety slightly but makes servicing way more difficult. Most makers such as Honda use non-hole drum brake shoes because they’re easier to install. On these Derbi 105 x 25 mm brakes, the hole type interchanges with the non-hole type.
Note 5. The speedo spacer is only for bikes without speedometers. It takes up the same space on the axle as the speedo driver unit would. Veglia speedo drivers take up 3 mm. CEV speedo drivers take up 4 mm.
Note 6. The anchor bar is the bracket that attaches the brake plate and carries the braking force to near the swing-arm pivot. It’s purpose is to isolate the brake action from the suspension action. So going over bumps does not change the braking behavior. Mopeds generally do not have a anchor bar, but motorcycles generally do. The first Derbi models sold in the US 1976-78 did not have it, then they did 1979-80, then they did not again after 1980. For more info see section 5 Controls.
A brake plate for no anchor bar can be converted to work with an anchor bar by 1) adding a 8.5mm spacer, 2) repositioning the lever on the cam shaft, 3) drilling a 8mm hole in the brake plate anchor.

6. Axle Parts Accounting
The sum of the lengths of all of the axle parts must add up to the length of the axle, minus any extra. Adding things up can expose errors and predict unknown lengths.
Rear Corrections: In the SL-SLE-TT, Laguna and C5-RD50 Parts Catalogs the axle parts take up so much space on the rear axle that the axle nut uses only 4 or 5 of its 8 threads. The calculation exposed this. Derbi compensated for the short axle by leaving out one washer and making another one way thinner. An actual original 1980 Derbi SL confirmed this. Here the illustrations and lists have been corrected to match what is actually on the bikes.
Front Corrections: In the SL-SLE-TT, Laguna and C5-RD50 Parts Catalogs three front axle washers 31.12.310 are listed and illustrated. One is an inner washer, inside the fork and the other two are outer washers. The inner washer is only on bikes without speedometers. So here it is called a speedo spacer. It takes up the same 3mm space on the axle as the speedo driver. The manuals don’t show or explain this. Furthermore the illustrations show it on the brake side, not the speedo side. Here the illustrations have been corrected to match what is actually on the bikes.
