Note that Myrons Mopeds and Myrons Extreme Machines, both have the same first name, are on the same street, are in the same city, and have the same phone number except for the last digit. The Little Moped That Could, by Susan Carpenter, Jun 2007 http://articles.latimes.com/2007/jun/27/autos/hy-throttle27

Throttle jockey Susan Carpenter has ridden every kind of motorcycle sold in Los Angeles. For years she rode a different new bike every week for her Los Angeles Times column. She came to Myrons Mopeds in 2007 and borrowed a new red Tomos ST moped for a two-day road test. She even left her 600cc scooter and rode the slow little red one home, from Fullerton to near downtown Los Angeles, about 20 miles. No trucks or trailers for her! Read her authoritative review. The 2007 ST she rode, A55 engine, is pretty much the same as 2012. Only the controls, wiring, and rear shocks are different.

Moped clubs, buying and selling, information, pictures, advocacy, more bikes, and resources are their main categories. Very extensive, complete, and useful, but the Moped Dealers list appears to be from the late 1990′s to early 2000′s, and over half obsolete and incorrect.

Commentary

August 9, 2012

Welcome to Commentary by Shaun Strahm.

It’s great to live 5 miles from work and be able to commute every day on a moped. Every once in awhile an especially memorable or pleasurable moment occurs. Here are a few of those worth mentioning.

You’re stopped at a light, surrounded by “giant” 5000 lb vehicles. You feel weak and vulnerable. What productive activity can you do to pass the time, while the car drivers are busy pushing their little buttons inside their air conditioned bubble? I know! Move around a little and attract their attention. Then later when the light turns green you will have a “cloak of protection” somewhat, because those cars are afraid of you, or at least aware of “that goofball” . A 500 lb motorcycle cannot be moved back and forth and side to side, with your legs, as much as a 150 lb moped can. It gives you pleasure that you can move and fidget with your vehicle, while the “giant” hippos around you are like heavy boulders that do not move quickly.

More to follow …
